Cell Phones - Good or Bad?

When asked how a cell phone user likes his/her service with their cell phone the typical response is that they don’t. A recent survey by Consumers Reports found that the very best cell phone service provider got a rating of 3 out of a possible 5.

If you relate that to when you were in school that would be a “C” grade. And that was for the best one. There are only about a dozen cell phone service providers and of that there are 6 that have 95% of users.

So why do we accept this type of poor service. Why is it we “settle” for things now. A friend of mine lives in Chicago, Illinois and tells me that they know that when they go out to eat they will expect the service to be substandard. Now how crazy is that. Do they do anything about it? Sometimes they reduce the tip by 50% when they think it was bad sedrvice as a result of the wait server.

But getting back to the cell phones and the service we receive, it is terrible that we allow this type of substandard service to become the norm. Is it possible that we allow it to occur because there are so many underage children using cell phones and it is not something that we concern ourselves with. They use it and it makes our life easier when we need to communicate with them.

Or is it that they make it so difficult to get any assistance from their service departments. They sub contract out their service to businesses in other countries and they have no more control then we do when it comes to improving the service we get.

It is very difficult to speak to these people as they don’t speak English as well as we do. OOPs! That is being very generous to say we speak better English then people in other countries based on the conversations I’ve had with many people around the USA.

Actually, when you look around the country you will find examples of poor service no matter where you go or what store or restuarant or what ever place you go to buy, lease or eat at. I cannot believe that we allow that to occur. Do I demand better service every time I get jerked around? No! Sometimes it is not worth the hastle to try and demand that the service be better.

But I do try to get people to provide the service I expect. If I get poor serviced at a restuarant, I will let the management know and I let the wait server know by complaining and leaving a very small tip. There are some places that you cannot do that as they put the 20% tip right in the bill so that you have no choice but to pay them even if the service was substandard. The one that comes to mind right off the bat is New York City. The service is normally pretty poor and they just don’t care most of the time. And apparently, so does Chicago restaurants.

If you would like to know which cell phone service provider has been rated as the best, I will let you know in another issue of “The Cell Phone, As the World Turns Badly!”

If you would like to leave a comment about service you get from your cell phone service provider, please feel free. Maybe we can get small sampling survey of our own. Tell me the cell phone service providers you have used and rank them between 1 and 5 with 5 being the very best service you’ve ever seen or never seen.

Thanks, talk to you next time.
